Junior Cadet Program and Membership
Junior Cadet Program Overview
Our Junior Cadet Program is designed for motivated high school students between the ages of 16-18 interested in emergency medical services, healthcare, and community service. This program provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to EMS operations while developing leadership skills, teamwork, and responsibility in a structured and supportive environment.
Junior Cadets participate in educational training sessions, department events, and act as an active riding member of our EMS crews. Through these experiences, cadets build foundational knowledge in patient care, communication, and emergency response, all while giving back to their community.
The RRS Junior Cadet Program is highly competitive and offers a select number of seats to new junior members once per year in the early Summer months. Below is our general timeline for each selection year. Updates and specifics can be found on our social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn).
General Information Sessions
We require all interested junior applicants to attend our Information Sessions with their parent. These sessions provide an in-depth overview of the program, expectations, time commitments, and the application process. It is also a great opportunity to meet current members, ask questions, and determine if the program is the right fit.
Attendance at an information session is required in order to apply. Information sessions are held in early March. Please keep an eye on our social media pages for exact dates and sign-up links. Information sessions for the Summer 2026 Junior Cadet class have concluded.
Application Process
Following the Information Session, eligible candidates will be invited to submit an application. The application is designed to help us learn more about each candidate’s interests, commitment level, and readiness for the program. The application typically gets sent out in early April with a late April application deadline.
Applicants should ensure all materials are completed thoroughly and submitted by the stated deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications submitted without proof of information session attendance will not be considered. No exceptions will be made out of fairness to all other applicants.
Interview Timeline
Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an interview in early May as part of the selection process. Interviews allow us to get to know candidates beyond their application and assess qualities such as communication skills, professionalism, and enthusiasm for the program.
Applicants will be notified of interview decisions shortly after the application deadline. Final decisions will be communicated following the completion of all interviews.
Summer Junior Cadet Training Class
The Junior Cadet Program trains its new members after the interview and selection process in all certifications and competencies required to ride on our ambulances. This training course Saturday + Sunday one of the final two weekends of June each year. New Junior Members are required to attend all training to begin the program. We do not accept junior member applications or new members outside of this summer training class.
We Look Forward to Meeting You
The Junior Cadet Program is a rewarding experience for students looking to explore a future in EMS or healthcare. We are excited to meet passionate, driven individuals who are ready to learn, grow, and serve their community.
